A particularly attractive feedstock, petroleum coke (petcoke) is the solid carbon byproduct of the oil refining process. Green coke contains approximately 15-20% residual hydrocarbon materials, while CPC offers a fixed carbon content between 97 and 99.5% and is virtually free of all residual hydrocarbons and moisture. Commonly known as Met coke, Metallurgical coke is a high-quality, tough and resilient-wearing carbon with applications ranging from conductive flooring, ceramic packing media, friction and anti-corrosion materials, to foundry coating and carbon raisers. Manufactured through the destructive distillation of various blends of bituminous coal, where kilns are used to release volatile components including coal, tar, ammonia, and dozens of other products of decomposition, met coke is a non-melting carbon.

Calcined Needle Coke
This premium-grade, high value petroleum coke is used in a variety of applications, including the manufacture of graphite electrodes for electric arc furnaces in the steel industry. A highly crystalline form of carbon, it is typically higher in carbon and lower in ash constituents, such as sulfur and metals, than standard calcined petroleum coke.
It’s needle-like structure is the result of the high degree of liquid crystal alignment that occurs during the coking process. Needle coke offers unique friction and wear properties thanks to a well-developed layer structure. Applications where higher purity, softer calcined petroleum coke is required may also benefit from its use.
