Business Development Engineer - Drilling/Oilfield Market


Job Overview:

The successful candidate will identify and engage in strategic drilling and oilfield industry targets with an emphasis on new opportunities for Asbury products.  Upon matriculation into the position expectations require achieving new high margin sales by leveraging Asbury’s extensive product portfolio and technical support for this key application.  A key objective will be to secure new business for Asbury utilizing proprietary development schemes when applicable.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Forge inroads at manufactures of lost circulation controllers and other products that support the drilling and oilfield industry
  • Identify and develop a relationship with key personnel at these targeted accounts (ex. engineers, scientists, purchasing managers, operations management)
  • Keep a project list that is to perpetually updated
  • Update Asbury CRM with new accounts and opportunities along with archiving activities
  • Interface with all pertinent Asbury peers collaboratively on new opportunities to convert into high margin sales
  • Assist with legacy product applications and accounts when assigned
  • Construct business cases to support resource requests necessary to convert new opportunities into sales, this includes activities such as identifying growth possibilities through new product development, potential acquisition opportunities and other opportunities that will advance Asbury’s presence in the market
  • Travel to Asbury laboratory when necessary to assist in development/bench work
  • Travel to Asbury production facilities when necessary to assist implementation of the required technical proficiencies which will be required to produce new products.

Preferred Experience/Skills:

Minimum of a BS in materials science or engineering, physical science, preferably chemistry, physics, or earth science.  Previous technical experience with graphite, coke and other carbonaceous materials is highly desirable. 

A proven track record of business development and sales experience in the drilling and oilfield industry with an understanding of the engineering and formulation of Lost Circulation Materials.

The ability to communicate effectively with all levels within an organization utilizing persuasive fact-based talking points to make Asbury the obvious partner in developing new products and applications. 

A demonstrated history of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously towards a winning conversion into sales. 

Working conditions

The position allows for a dedicated home office and will require travel domestically as necessary to target opportunities to secure business for Asbury.  It is also anticipated that travel will be required to both the Asbury corporate office/laboratory and manufacturing facilities to support successful conversion of new business

Physical requirements

Must be able to list 25 lbs. unaided, sit for long periods of time, and travel up to 50% of the time.
